GPA Calculator
Calculate your weighted and unweighted GPA quickly with this GPA calculator. Enter each course grade, optionally add the course name and number of credits, and select the appropriate course weight. The calculator supports standard, Honors, AP, IB, and accelerated courses, making it useful for calculating a GPA based on weighted high school grading scales.
The calculator uses a standard letter-grade scale where grades of 93 and above are treated as an A/A+, grades from 90–92 are A-, 87–89 are B+, and the remaining grades follow the standard plus/minus grading scale. For unweighted GPA, courses use the standard 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA adds additional points based on course level: regular grade-level courses receive no additional weight, Honors courses receive +0.5, and AP, IB, or accelerated courses receive +1.0.

How to Use the GPA Calculator
Use the GPA calculator to enter your current grades and calculate your weighted and unweighted GPA.
- Enter your grade: Type your percentage grade for each course, such as 92 or 95.
- Add the course name: Enter the class name if you want to keep track of which grade belongs to each course. This field is optional.
- Enter credits: Add the number of credits assigned to the course. Credit values can be used to account for courses that carry different amounts of credit.
- Select the course weight: Choose Grade Level, Honors, or AP/IB/Accelerated based on the course.
- Add additional courses: Use the Add Row button to enter more classes.
- Calculate your GPA: Click Calculate to instantly display your weighted and unweighted GPA.
How Weighted GPA Is Calculated
A weighted GPA accounts for the difficulty or level of a course. This calculator applies the following additional GPA points:
- Grade Level: +0.0 points
- Honors: +0.5 points
- AP/IB/Accelerated: +1.0 point
For example, an A in a standard course is worth 4.0 GPA points, while an A in an Honors course is worth 4.5 points and an A in an AP, IB, or accelerated course is worth 5.0 points. The weighted GPA reflects both your grades and the additional weight assigned to advanced coursework.
Unweighted GPA vs. Weighted GPA
An unweighted GPA measures grades on the standard 4.0 scale without giving additional points for Honors, AP, IB, or accelerated classes. A weighted GPA gives additional credit for advanced courses, so students taking more challenging classes can have a GPA above 4.0.
Because high schools can use different grading policies, your school's official GPA may differ from the result of this calculator. Always check your school's grading scale if you need a GPA for an official transcript, application, or academic requirement.
GPA Letter Grade Scale
This GPA calculator uses a standard plus/minus letter-grade conversion. Grades of 93 or higher are treated as A/A+, while grades from 90–92 are A-. Grades from 87–89 are B+, followed by the corresponding B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, and F ranges.
FAQ
What is a weighted GPA?
A weighted GPA gives additional GPA points for advanced courses. In this calculator, Honors courses receive +0.5 points, while AP, IB, and accelerated courses receive +1.0 point.
What is an unweighted GPA?
An unweighted GPA calculates your grades using the standard 4.0 scale without adding extra points for Honors, AP, IB, or accelerated courses.
What GPA is an A?
On the standard unweighted scale used by this calculator, an A/A+ is worth 4.0 GPA points. The weighted value can be higher depending on the course level.
How much does an Honors class add to GPA?
An Honors course adds 0.5 GPA points to the standard grade value. For example, a 95 (A) is worth 4.5 weighted GPA points in an Honors course.
How much does an AP or IB class add to GPA?
AP, IB, and accelerated courses receive an additional 1.0 GPA point. For example, an A worth 4.0 on the unweighted scale becomes 5.0 weighted GPA points.
Do course credits affect GPA?
Yes. When courses have different credit values, credits can be used to give each course the appropriate influence on the overall GPA.
Why is my school's GPA different from this calculator?
Schools may use different percentage-to-letter-grade ranges, weighting systems, credit rules, or GPA scales. This calculator uses the grading and weighting system described above, so your school's official GPA may differ.
